of attempting to control please tell me what is And then please explain how saying I am not willing to be treated that way is controlling For the record I have NEVER threatened to leave over anything ever before And there are a LOT of things I could have grievances over that probably 75 of the people on here would tell me to leave my husband over If anything I am a major pushover But we did take marriage vows to love honor and cherish That goes both ways Giving your spouse the silent treatment is breaking those vows During the third silent treatment of our marriage I realized that living in a house with someone who will not speak to me for days on end is NOT TOLERABLE to me There is simply no value to me in a marriage where I can t communicate with and be taken seriously by my spouse It is not a threat or an ultimatum It is simply a fact It is too painful to me to tolerate I would be much happier alone than tied to a person who treats me that way and if he did it again I would leave I gave him valuable information by letting him know that BTW Do you give your spouse the silent treatment when you get irritated How often and for how long I really can t imagine who has experienced being on the receiving end of that type of treatment dismissing it the way you and Spot are doing unless of course they act that way themselves and think their spouse should just accept it too a man does that doesnt speak because he knows he s going to get argumentative or agressive if he says something or just going to get in a huge row Why does she do it nothing fine because she wants to hurt him Which one of those two responses is being nasty Not wanting a huge argument or spiteing you re loved one but neither is an ultimatium Ultimatiums are power struggles they are about controlling the other person to get your own way usually passive aggressively p a is a bad thing There is no reasoning no come back from that point it s like idiots on the Internet that threaten to leave if you then f o leave because when you re gone I wont have to put up with your rubbish or your threats Generally I ve found that s the only way to deal with passive aggressive people they like using p a because they can t be called on their abuse so the only thing is to rhino ahead and either they re bluffing and you should ignore their pathetic control issues or they re serious and you re the way you and Spot are doing unless of course they act that way themselves and think their spouse should just accept it People go silent for various reasons Not the same as threatening divorce As Spot said men can and do go silent as a way of backing down from saying something hurtful or if they see no point in speaking during an argument My wife will often rant and rave when she wants to make a point she is highly emotional and the best thing that I can do is stay quiet for a few days Silent treatment Maybe Controlling Definitely not Even if it is passive aggressive as you say it does not warrant the D ultimatum If you really want out then leave don t just threaten it Else work on it with him Otherwise what else does your husband do that merits you threatening him with divorce Does not show enough emotion Not exciting Argumentative Does not pay enough attention All things that need work on mainly by him but not divorce worthy Anyway this is becoming a threadjack so I ll get off this your own wants and expectations That is not exactly accurate Year before last we spent two weeks with his family on a family reunion vacation Then the following spring we took his brother and wife to the Caribbean with us Last fall we spent four days with his brother wife on a long weekend getaway that I planned so that we could spend time with his family Every week we have dinner with his son wife grandchild which I thoroughly enjoy I am fairly independent as I do quite a bit of civic work that is separate but coincides with my actual job and is something I enjoy In thinking about this I realized that he has no close friends I am not sure why this is His preferred world is working and coming home and watching TV I am not a TV watcher but I will spend many evenings sitting with him reading or writing while he watches We both enjoy riding motorcycles but I had surgery a year ago which has limited that activity for me for a bit Before that if I wanted to go on a ride with a group I would have to go by myself because he was not interested in group rides I did not do that often opting to ride with him more As I mentioned if he does go with me to one of my events he is more often than not non engaged and does not attempt to join the conversation Yes I am the planner for the family Otherwise our world would be work and TV All I asked was that he not fly off the handle and that he sit down and discuss options which he didn t and still does not seem interested in doing Share Share this post on Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Stumble this Post Digg this Post Add to del icio I have never ranted and raved at my husband But if your wife is so fired up that she does that and the reaction she gets from you is to be ignored for three days You may have a walk away wife on your hand sooner than you think 2 I would not consider most of the other things you mentioned noteworthy let alone divorce worthy The issues I have in my marriage that I consider serious are more logistical like him not working but spending all the life savings I brought int our marriage and all the money I ve earned since so we have nothing for retirement at age 50 and him insisting on living in a very high cost area where I don t even want to be But even that I know I have to find a way to get under control but I would not threaten divorce over The very simple fact is though if he EVER gives me the silent treatment again I will leave him That is not a relationship That is not marriage And I won t waste my life with someone who treats me like that And he has said he will never do it again and has shown no signs that he would so I think we re good Share Share this post on Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Stumble this Post Digg this Post Add to del icio us Reddit WorkingWife is online now Quote Quick Reply post 48 of 49 permalink Unread Today 12 03 AM Thread Starter Katiebird Member Join Date Jun 2010 Posts 84 Re Stupid little thing but need advice I hate walking on eggshells never knowing exactly what will trigger it Share Share this post on Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Stumble this Post Digg this Post Add to del icio us Reddit WorkingWife likes this Katiebird is online now Quote Quick Reply post 49 of 49 permalink Unread Today 12 27 AM WorkingWife Member Join Date May 2015 Posts 535 Re Stupid little thing but need advice Quote Originally Posted by Katiebird View Post I hate walking on eggshells never knowing exactly what will trigger it I believe that is why they do it So you ll just be careful to not rock the boat in any way and trigger it So when your husband said it was all fine after all and oh well about being able to work things out is her all back to normal Perfectly good mood and communicative Share Share this post on Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Stumble this Post Digg this Post Add to del icio us Reddit WorkingWife is online now Quote Quick Reply Remove Advertisements Sponsored Links Talk About Marriage Advertisement Reply Page 4 of 4 1 2 3 4 Tags class reunion grandchildren Message Cancel Changes Quick Reply The following errors occurred with your submission Okay Message Options Quote message in reply Register Now In order to be able to
