by drawing the outline of the dress on this basic body avatar Excuse this picture or lack thereof as it was damaged and I have to go onto my other computer to retreive it Here you can see the outline I have made of the dress I have also shifted both of the arms well actually I have created them both as the one seems non existant and the other is normally behind the doll I do this by keeping both the image I found and the doll s image both open at the same time and keep looking from one to the other to make sure you keep the proportions the right way You can use the paint brush tool or you can use the Draw tool and make sure in the tool options box you click it on Freehand Line So you can draw out the line you want to make and if you mess up you can just undo that action I started shading the doll s clothing remember use darkest to lightest colors and try to use 4 5 colors of the same shade to make the doll s clothes look really great I will be adding many more examples of how I create new doll clothing and then on to new doll bodies New doll bodies are harder to create and they are definately NOT for the artist who rushes through their work because in this you have two options create it entirely by yourself or shrink down an image which means you ll have a lot of cleaning up to do I will start covering this later though after I get some more stuff done for this web page Using Pictures Here is the other way I make new clothing I take an image

been doing this for a pretty long time almost 5 years now come Christmas Thats a long time Which means I ve had LOTS of time to practice This is just like drawing anything else it takes time to perfect It definitely WON T take you 5 years lol but don t expect to be great right off the bat If you are though more power to you The most basic part is have a graphics program I like to use Paint Shop Pro especially version 6 and 7 You can download a free trail of PSP at www jasc com The next most basic thing is to work with the pencil tool which nearly EVERY graphics program out there has And make sure that tool is set to ONE PIXEL wide Yup one pixel at a time That is how classic palace editing is done But if you create your dolls for your website you have lots more opportunity to experiment with your graphics programs filters and all that fun stuff Xandorra was the first person to introduce me to using blurring and filters on my dolls If it weren t for her I probably wouldn t have found that I could use those methods until much later Although for myself I do prefer to still remain in the classic editing mode P Ok what you want to start off with is learning how to shade Shading is what makes everything seem life like ya know what I mean There is no secret to shading its not very hard And since dolls are so small its relatively easy to shade them To start off with shading if you aren t very good at it yet I d recommend to download one of the blank peices of clothing and practice

you start out 1 An artist draw what he sees and not how he thinks it should be We so easily draw eyes or hair according to preset images that is already in our brain 2 Use the right equipment This is necessary to achieve true likeness So we are going to look at material and the equipment you will draw with 3 Taking time is one of the most important factors you always should keep in mind if you want to see the top of the mountain This type of realistic drawing is a time consuming hobby but extremely satisfying when you see the response and admiration people have These are the very basic things you must remember Yet it takes a lot of practice and perseverance Please also note while there is no real human nudity the base body I create will be nude If you can t handle cartoon boobs I suggest you look elsewhere for base body tutorials though good luck finding another one Ha For this tutorial you will need a painting program It does not matter what painting program you have this could easily apply to Paint Shop Pro Microsoft Paint to PhotoShop All

who is looking only slightly to the right or left the 3 4 perspective of the body to make it easier on yourself 1 We begin with a blank head After that choose the colors that you will use for the hair Usually people use a palette of colors meaning shades of one color from darker to lighter colors Here is the palette I will be using along with the head 2 I find it easiest to mark a point on the head to start drawing at This is usually the middle of the hairline in the front of the head for me Don t make it too low but don t make it too high either Keep trying it out until you find a point that looks right to you note And easier way to see what you are doing without having to zoom in and out is to do this with the image you are working on is the image selected go to Window in your menu bar and click on New Window This should be the first option in the menu Now an exact replica of the image you are working on should appear This will let you zoom in and work on your image while letting you see what your doll will look like at the proper zoom 1 1 3 I start by drawing the outline of the curls that are to be in front refer back to the real picture 4 I continue to create the outline of the hair Outlining is the best way to start if you make a mistake you can correct it quite easily without messing the image much This is how you should always start out anything whether it be hair clothing accessories or the like 5 Color in

they appear to be looking to the side of yourself This makes it so the eye closer to you looks larger and you see the whole of it The other eye is angled away and the nose partly covers it As you can see the right end of the smaller eye lines up directly with the close end of the nose I hope you can see what i m saying The pixels of each of them are either right next to each other lined up of course not literally or just one pixel wide If you d like to check your dolls just draw a line in your painting program next to the side of the smaller eye and draw downwards and see where it hits the nose or see if it even does The paper doll head uppermost left head is the way I always like to do the eyes on my dolls Its all just a matter of preference I ve shown many different styles of heads and its all about the style you yourself learn to develope in creating different styles of eyes As you can see on this mini head i ve shown basic elements on

want Now right click on the doll and click on duplicate This will make an exact copy of the doll and place it to the first cell s right hand side Now click on the second frame so that it is highlighted Your animation should now look like this Now zoom in if you already haven t Have both faces on your screen so you can refer to the other one if you make a mistake Click on the brush tool Then hold down your alt key on your keyboard to get the color dropper and click on the color of the eyes That is now the color you will be working with Also be sure that your pixel width is set to 1 pixel Note If you aren t seeing the tools I am talking about right click on one of the toolbars you DO see and click all of your toolbars on Now in the second frame move the pupil of the eye to make it look like its looking the opposite way Your doll s eyes will look filled with the color so then click on the color palette on white or near white and fill in the other side with the white of the eyes Our dolls should now look similar to this We can take it even further now and add one eye winking or both blinking at the same time Duplicate the second doll as before and then click on the third cell that popped up Pick up the dolls eyelash color using the alt key and then edit the eye or both eyes to look closed You can also now put on eyeshadown onto your dolls eyes if you want to After you are done with that you may zoom out now to
