incredibly supportive regretfully we have now begun the process of seeking out and considering another institutional partner to serve as a final repository for the memorial and collection I am very pleased however that Ruben Zepeda of the LA Unified School District has agreed to write a teacher student study guide for the effort ARCHIVES August 2005 July 2005 June 2005 May 2005 April 2005 March 2005 February 2005 January

WTC They were visiting California as special guests of a conference being held at a nearby college Because of my memorial involvement they had invited me to attend What I was unprepared for was not only the warmth in which I was greeted but also then being urged to share briefly with the students about the memorial effort However what continues to be the most personally humbling thing for me is when these incredibly brave survivors would then somehow offer to ever thank me for my small role when they are the ones most deserving of any appreciation October 11 2004 R I P SUPERMAN You will be missed October 09 2004 Symposium Today with my involvement in the memorial project I attended an all day symposium at Forest Lawn on memorialization Although I am doubtful I may be ever accused of being an intellectual overall it was a pretty engaging interaction and discourse as I met a number of professors architects including the designer of the Oklahoma City Memorial and what I tend to refer to as people with real jobs While their insights into some of the many issues I ve encountered over the past 3 years in

this morning and watched the news coverage of the memorial services on TV I have lived with those events near everyday since then in my involvement with the memorial and in interacting with those personally affected by the tragedy During that time I have struggled to remain composed in the midst of my empathy with grieving families on the telephone and I have witnessed the incomprehension of that day over and over again through countless videos photos and other accounts So I was a bit surprised then to find some of that same unnerving feeling of reliving that original morning arising again within me when watching today s coverage I hope I never lose that feeling 3 years Never Forget September 09 2004 Goodbye Frank I was pleased to have known him and only hope that I may accomplish as much in my time here as Frank did September 07 2004 Nose to the Grindstone Dancing penguins a blue genie and twitterpated rabbits If any of that makes sense to you than you can probably also figure out that Disney has had me tied up for awhile now working away on a number of different things ARCHIVES August 2005 July

To Heroes Telethon and a show run through schedule to add to the memorial collection Far more humbling though was receiving another lost missing victim flyer to add to the archive August 05 2004 Memorial Update Although it still needs some formatting the long overdue update of the memorial section of the site is now up and presents some of the representative items in the overall collection with new and humbling additions continuing to be made Among those this week I was pleased to have the First Lady s office graciously provide a copy of the response letter sent out to children who wrote to the White House after 9 11 What makes the acquistion of this copy significant is that the First Lady personally signed it for us and as such it is the only signed copy of that letter anywhere besides the original letter which is destined for the National Archives or the eventual Presidential Library Then as well we were humbled to be able to acquire two small vials containing samples of the thick ash that covered New York City after the incomprehensible collapse of the towers only 3 short years ago ARCHIVES August 2005 July 2005

list you are suddenly branded one of the unworthy an undesirable What is always interesting though is to watch the attitudes suddenly try to revert back to a false nicety once it s finally determined that your name was only mistakenly left off or some other snafu They smile but you can still see it in their eyes a cold and distant disdain still questioning the correction of the mistake that would allow you the just previously unworthy to enter their world Hollywood is a funny place July 09 2004 Updates Been away for a while so I m slowly catching up on entries here to the journal Feel free to read back and catch stuff that you may have missed previously July 08 2004 Limestone The limestone building remnant artifact from the Pentagon was finally delivered here today by FEDEX having again graciously agreed to underwrite the transportation of the 1 000 lbs piece as they also previously transported the WTC steel remnant With it s delivery the initial vision of acquiring remnants from the three 9 11 locations for the memorial is now almost 3 years later complete The piece is quite similar in shape and characteristics to the piece in the Smithsonian s collection and I am grateful that we were able to receive it July 07 2004 Flying home I had a 4 hour layover in Dallas Ft Worth airport While there I encountered a soldier in fatigues a member of the 1st infantry who told me they were returning to Iraq We began talking and eventually he asked me about my work Once he found out he took me several gates down the terminal to the USO and introduced me to some of his buddies They were a good group of guys and a few ladies and soon they had me spending the rest of my time there sketching pictures and signing autographs for them What was most humbling though was being able to share about my involvement with the memorial effort I happened to have with me in my carry on a few chips that had became dislodged from the pentagon limestone piece in readying it for transport I was able to show these to the guys and their reactions were quite stirring As I watched them quietly and reverently view the pieces I could only help think that the small pieces in some ways represented what they were fighting for I believe they recognized that too I urge you to support your local USO and the men and women serving our country July 06 2004 Pentagon and NSA This morning I had the priviledge of visiting the Pentagon several individuals there and the memorial chapel where the aircraft struck the building Afterward with my comment the day before about the International Spy Museum not displaying enough real artifacts I today had the opportunity to travel out to Ft Meade and visit the NSA s not widely known National Cryptologic Museum and learn first

approx 1 3 of the size of the Smithsonian s to find that we retain the only two collections anywhere focused on all three 9 11 locations NY DC PA Afterward I wandered the museum somewhat and then walked on over a few blocks to the Corcoran Museum of Art to view Norman Rockwell s Four Freedom paintings on exhibit for the 4th of July and the opening of the National WWII Memorial June 23 2004 Another trip I ve flown out East Washington D C once again for personal and business There is so much planned for this trip though I ve been wondering if I ll need a vacation from my vacation when I get back On my flight out I arranged a stopover in order to have lunch at the Cracker Barrel with my good buddy Joseph who did this terriffic portrait of me and some of his friends It was a great time although too short a visit June 06 2004 D Day As the media covers the 60th anniversary of the WWII D Day invasion at Normandy I ve been reflecting on my own father s role there Being a paratrooper in the 101st airborne I try and comprehend the awful dread he must ve felt jumping out over France in the dark of night when the odds were estimated to be as high as 1 in 4 dead which later turned out to be 1 in 7 By war s end they were 400 000 American troops dead The new national WWII memorial pays tribute to that massive sacrifice I am unsure what well of courage those men found to drink from but I believe they must ve drunk buckets full I am doubtful if found in the same position if I might ever
