the Tea Party establishment yes establishment and a man who would reduce government regulation to an afterthought Heck even George W Bush has come out of hiding offering up his big brother as if American s had somehow forgotten just how horrible a president he was The Democrats who roundly deserved to have their asses kicked would be wise to give the Republicans as much rope as they can get their over exuberant hands on Just as they did in 2010 the right wing is already setting policy that will offer instant gratification to the angry increasingly impoverished fools who elected them and that will by 2016 provide Democrats with the one incentive they really need to get their base out to vote We all know that voter turnout in presidential years skyrockets It s a marquee event and that like access to fair easy voter registration and early voting favors the Democrats which is to say the left wing which is to say anyone to the left of the right wing The Republicans party of the American right wing now and possibly forever know that too They don t even need charts What they all should know but insist that they don t is that high voter turnout can also be the result of one other thing a deep unavoidable belief that we really do have something to lose That s the incentive that will return Democrats in all their uselessness to power Give the right wing two years less one week to achieve that Count on it Daniel Ward 1 note Permalink Posted at 8 02 PM Tagged politics elections 2014 midterms 2016 presidential election barack obama John Boehner Mitch McConnell democrats republicans congress house of representatives senate chris christie rand paul ted cruz George W Bush russia ukraine eastern ukraine china hong kong democracy voter registration voter suppression Elections Dec 11 Democratic Funny how so many elections seem to be scheduled around the end of the year In theory if we want new leaders we want to be able to start our new year with their new leadership and even if for whatever reasons we might have we want to keep the leadership and leadership we already have starting afresh with a new number on the calendar seems like a nice symbolic break with the past however recent it may be That the calendar has placed this break conveniently in between the harvest and beginning of planting in the northern hemisphere is no accident If something s going to change let it happen when we re busy staying warm and celebrating just how happy we are even to be alive with the exchanging of reasonably priced gifts and the drinking of eggnog or the warming beverage of your choice As long as the final decisions are made before the year is out and the new guys take over no sooner than the start of the next one we ll take what we can get Of course there

of a leader to see him or her deferring to anyone I put or her in parentheses because many right wing voters and donors still cannot see a woman being that bold Carly Fiorina gave it her best shot mercilessly spouting off imaginary statistics about the economy and her resumé and solumn diatribes about shocking and terrifying although ultimately fake abortion videos She scored points with the Republican base not only for whipping up fear of government funded horrors but for defiantly refusing to admit that she could have been wrong about any of it let alone that her claims might be complete bullshit It gave her a short term boost in polling and fundraising but it was only going to last as long as she could pull off the role of non Trump Trump which for her only lasted until her novelty wore off It s hard to out Trump Trump at being Trump and Fiorina just isn t bullshit artist enough One thing Trump has that she doesn t is a long track record of attacking people for calling him on his bullshit He s relentless He won t come close to winning this or any nomination but he s spent so much time at the top of the shallow Republican polls seriously who else has even cracked 30 precisely because he keeps people talking about him Trump s latest calculated embarrassment came Monday when he suggested that thousands of New Jersey Muslims celebrated when terrorists attacked the United States on 9 11 Obviously it s a load of horseshit insulting not only to all Muslims and all those who were murdered that day but in particular to those Muslims who lost loved ones to those murderers on that day It also insults our intelligence but that s less important because the public response to it like every other piece of horseshit and bullshit flyng out of his mouth has been comical The mainstream media bullied long ago into equivocation effectively threw up its hands and shrugged offering us a What are you gonna do It s just Trump being Trump right In this way they too are meeting expectations just ones that happen to be very very low What s telling though is that most of Trump s opponents also failed to call him on it Those who did such as New Jersey Governor Chris Christie had little support from the Republican base One who initially backed Trump up claiming to have seen shocking and offensive videos of Muslims on that day later backtracked campaign spokespeople claiming the candidate had somehow confused New Jersey for the Middle East No really That candidate wasn t Carly Fiorina of course but Ben Carson He like Trump has seized upon the terror attacks in Paris to whip up fear of Muslims and other outsiders Mostly of Muslims The Republican base loves that By the end of the weekend most of the Republican candidates had some sort of plan to keep the scary refugees out Some plans would allow Christian refugees in because no one ever killed in the name of Christianity right but all would safely ensure that voters and donors fears wouldn t be wasted What s important for those on the outside looking in not just the refugees is that right wing voters and donors feel the same way The voters Trump is trying to recruit to his cause are at the very least genuinely irrationally afraid Their genuine irrational ignorance of Muslims oddly makes many of them feel safe It provides a sense of control over chaos much in the same way a candidate s refusal to admit he s wrong does Certainty is what makes the right wing so appealing It reduces everything to right and wrong order and chaos good and evil strength and weakness us and them It s what draws frightened men and women to it and what compels the to commit atrocities in its name Never doubt that Trump or any politician recommending vile racist behavior in the aftermath of a terrorist attack hasn t done the simple math that what he s saying is what he thinks frightened people want to hear Trump may not need donors money but he ll certainly accept it and if you think he has any moral qualms about race baiting or fearmongering in general you haven t been paying attention Again Trump won t win anything The closer primary voters actually get to having to commit to someone the farther Trump or anyone like him actually gets from their votes Nevertheless he wrapped up his Thanksgiving week by making fun of the disability of the journalist he sourced for his Muslim celebration claim Why That journalist had dared refute him publicly and well that s what you get It was greeted with mild indignation and a chorus of shrugs Does that shock you Really Daniel Ward 2 guilty It s a nice sentiment perhaps more of an ideal The thing is ideals are ideals because they are not what we see or do everyday and those words would not ever have been codified into law if that sentiment came to us naturally Our instinct a vestige of our ancestors time hiding in trees from predators and fending off rivals for scarce food and shelter is to be defensive presuming a threat from those unknown to us and maintaining a safe distance from them What this distance provides us is a sense of certainty although it is perhaps more of a fantasy of it Keeping those who are unknown to us at a distance helps us not only in avoiding

he seeks to change our memory of it to rebrand the ideology behind it because why would you propose such a cruel dishonest policy again if it was such a failure the first time around Other factors must have caused the loss because here it is again as though it wasn t one of them This is Congressman Ryan pulling his proposal and the entire ideology behind it out of the garbage brushing it off rewrapping it and sticking a fancy new logo on it and hoping we ll forget what it is and where it s been This also explains why the Republicans have taken the same approach to their obstructionism blocking cabinet and judicial appointments with little cause and often no name attached the so called silent filibuster These are principled stands to be sure Why else would you block nominations anonymously That s what you do when you know you re right Right For all of the bluster about Benghazi and Chuck Hagel who had nothing to do with Benghazi it s the other nominations the ones for regulatory agencies and federal judicial appointments that are the real problem Stripped of personnel the agencies can t practice oversight and the courts can t try cases many of them involving the consequences of lack of oversight Senator s Paul s stand was both figurative and for once literal He used the Senate floor to demand that the Obama administration be accountable for its use of drones ones that have killed thousands of innocent civilians in countries that are thanks to those drones hating us more everyday The White House with the aid of the ever cooperative news media drowned his protest out by cheekily answering the question of whether or not they can use drones to kill Americans who are not in the act of killing Americans No apparently but that s the risk of talking for 13 hours instead of 13 seconds you don t get to pick what the sound bites are Rand Paul at least got his 2016 presidential campaign off to a good start College kids and people who already know they hate drones were impressed if only because a Senator actually brought the threat drones pose to everyone front and center and because he actually filibustered the way they thought it was supposed to be done It gave a sense of honesty and authenticity to his protest as an actual filibuster is supposed to do He sacrificed something of himself and people can t help but respect that He ll never be President of course Once the primary campaigns really begin he ll have to explain again and again how standing up and demanding more accountability and stricter government oversight that s what he was doing folks jibes with his previously stated libertarian positions that regulation a k a government oversight is an evil that must be stamped out at all costs It gets a little tricky once you re on the inside
